Well the "dev team" has allegedly made a successful jailbreak of iPhone 1.1.3 software. But they are holding it back, waiting for Apples next SDK (software development kit). This is done in order to prevent Apple from closing the "hack" or vulnerability they used to Jailbreak it.
I look forward to wobling my icons in a near future...

"Hacking" your iPhone
As it is right now, you need to through a procedure involving "hacking" your iPhone, and cutting up your sim-card. That is if you didn't buy it unlocked in a european country...
well I didn't. And after a few hours of playing around, it's up and working.
I might add, this is the coolest PDA/gadget I have owned so far, and I have tried a few....
Well I will link to some guides, that will hopefully help. And don't worry, it may look complicated, but it's really not that tough, just take it one step at a time....
You'll need:
iPhone
A PC or Mac
sim-card (your own and the pre installed AT&t)
a WIFI connection
A turbo-sim card
PATIENCE

Syncing iPhone with Outlook 2007
Well got my favorite gadget..
I've read ALOT of people having trouble syncing contacts with outlook (in my case 2007)
However I found a solution for my problem..
Background: All my contacts are synced from a Nokia E65 to Outlook 2007
solution: I spend literally hours trying to sync it. Finally I got so frustrated I moved all contacts OUT from outlook... Then I tried syncing it, and it worked... Well with zero contacts left it wasn't really worth anything. But it got me on the right track.
In the folder where I stored all the Vcards/contacts, after moving them out of Outlook, I started looking for a problem. And found one. Most od my contacts contains name and one number, pretty consistently, so I figured they should weigh(in kb) the same.
When I browsed through them, I saw most where around 8kb, but some where 16-64kb. When I synced with one of the 8 kb contacts it works. But when I sync one of the more heavy ones, it crashes.
In order to get my sync working I deleted the faulty contact, and then re-intering a new one...
Reason: I believe the Nokia PC-suite for some reason add some details to the contact that conflicts with Itunes / iPhone.
I hope this will help others as well.

The battle against (or with) Apple Iphone
Whether the Iphone really is the ulltimate gadget I don't know yet. But I can't wait to find out.
So as mentioned before I ordered an Iphone, and basicly it's an expensive Ipod touch.
The issue is that Apple tries REALLY hard to lock the phones, so only one provider can sell them. On the other side of the arena is "the dev team" a group of gifted "hackers" trying to reverse apples work.
Rumor has it, that Apple's made a sweet deal and making a profit at around 20% of the subsription deals. I have no source for this.
At the moment I iPhones are shipping with a firmware called 1.1.2 OOB (Out of the box) and a boot loader version 4.6. I have done a lot of browsing, and at the moment, there is NO software unlock for this software. This is also why I'm refering to the Iphone as an expensive ipod touch..

As far as I know the "dev team" is working hard to find a way to soft unlock the Iphone, but no one really knows har far out in the future this will happen.
On a more interesting development is reversing the Apple unlock procedure. In both France and germany it is possible (against a fee) to unlock the iPhone be sending the IMEI to Apple, It will then be unlocked through iTunes. Alot of hackers are hoping to reverse this and use it for "the greater good..."
Hopefully mine will be arriving within a week...

The Iphone
OK I'm admittedly a geek, well hmm.. HUGE geek that is.
So I just ordered an Iphone from the states. With some luck and goodwill from the customs it ought to arrive here about thursday next week whoooohooo... I can hardly wait.
However I have more or less orderet a REALLY exspensive Ipod touch. Since the software (1.1.2 ootb) is locking the phone. So a lot of my focus will be on finding a way to unlock it.
This is some thing I will post about for sure.

First thoughts on Weng Chun.
Well it's been two weeks since my friend Peter and I opened up our new club.
Peter and I go back a few years. Started out training some JKD.
we are steadily building our new team. Currently around 8 guys training, and more to come.
My role is primarily teaching grappling/BJJ and some administrative functions.
I don't really know shit about what Weng Chun is so far. But seen from my perspective there are many similarities with MMA. So far I appreciate the principles about sparring. And the concepts about using the energy of your opponent.

Segmentation of grappling priorities
Oh well here are some thoughts I have been puzzling with over some time. I have tried to narrow down my priorities when sparring. Using a funnel "method".
The background is seeing how beginners prioritize, and just rushing for the win, going all out a any how ever small opening for a submission.
This is how I try to do it.
It's kind of the old discussion about which came first; the chicken or the egg. Which is more important winning or NOT loosing ?
First up, if your in a mainly defensive position like mounted or in guard
Main priority is NOT getting submitted.
Second I want to secure my position and if possible improve my position by passing to an offensive position
Second if your in an offensive position like having guard, in side mount or full mount.
Main priority is securing my position and NOT getting reversed or passed
Second priority is setting up the submission and executing.
A third alternative i passing to establish a more offensive position or a more favored position. But this is basically starting from the top again.
This is not rocket science but a nice tool when teaching, to keep a purpose to all drills.

One simple guardpass, where you break the guard with an elbow:
Step 1: Don't get subbed, stay low and control the arms of yo
ur opponent.
step 2 Still don't get subbed. Sit up straight and establish a good base
step 3 While holding base open the guard by forcing your elbow to the thigh of your opponent
step 4 step over the thigh with your "near" leg. control the hip and upper body of your opponent with your arms. And pass.
step 5 upon passing your back to the "offensive-funnel" Main priority is not getting reversed to beeing in the guard.
Step 6 securing sidemount.
Some Kimura drillig and finally a scissors sweep.
And loads of sparring...

So this is it. My very first blog entry. Phew.
