3g iphone ready for july...
news from engadget.
by Ryan Block, posted Apr 25th 2008 at 3:26PM
So we've got it on authority that the second-gen iPhone is already well into testing, and numerous units are floating around in super secret pockets. A trusted source got a chance to check one out, here's what we've heard.
The first thing people will notice: the 2nd gen iPhone will be about the same size and shape as the first gen.
It will, of course, have 3G. And proper GPS!
The most noticeable physical difference is back of the phone is no longer metal -- the whole thing is glossy black, from top to bottom. The volume buttons are now chrome.
Because it's got a little less metal to deal with, it doesn't have quite as many angular edges. The battery is (still) not removable.
The phone itself will be slightly thicker than the first gen device.
The headphone jack will no longer be recessed, and will finally be flush with the body.
The device itself uses roughly the same size and resolution screen as the first generation product.
No solid word on battery life or storage capacity.
It could ship (or be introduced) as early as July -- but it's worth noting that none of this is necessarily finalized, and any of it could change between now and its introduction. You really never know with Apple!
P.S. -Image via iPod Observer, MacRumors points out it's probably just a case (which we'd likely agree with); we're not by any means claiming the image above is the new iPhone, just an example of what it could look like given the info we received.

PWNED is out..... for mac
PWNED, the "ultimate" tool from DEV team has been released for Mac. And will be released shortly, hopefully, for windoze.
I haven't tried it. and don't really know whether its better than Ziphone. One thing should be that PWN doesn't need to downgrade the bootloader, you can even upgrade bootloader. This might open some very interesting possibilities, like running Linux on iPhone... We'll just have to wait and see.

iPhone firmware 2.0 leaked.
Well It's been out there for some time now, although i wont be released for several months, june/july perhaps.
So what's the hype, really. Normally I would think it was nice to test some beta software. But I really can't see the big difference from 1.1.2-4

Testing Ziphone
For some reason my iphone "died" on me last week. I tried to install an app from installer. Restarted the iPhone .... NOTHING ....
I downloaded Ziphone, and in just about ten minutes I was up and running again... BLOODY BRILLIANT little tool.
FYI My iPhone is 1.1.2 OOB, unlocked originally with Turbosim. And at the moment running 1.1.3 unlocked with ziphone. I'm thinkin 1.1.4 for tomorrow.
I'll try to read up on it. I've seen some places that it's a minor upgrade, some would say bugfix...
DOWNLOAD Ziphone 2.5
If Can't figure out how to use it, you better return your iPhone... ;-)
Ziphone 2,5 and iPhone 1.1.4
There is a new version of ziphone aswell.

Ziphone now version 2.0
In the command line version, you will find a new
option "-b" be very careful with that!
I take no responsability if you brick your phone!
ZiPhone -b will downgrade bootloader from 4.6 to 3.9,
flash 4.03.13_G baseband version and
unlock it (in one shot!).
It worked for me on 2 ootb 1.1.2 phones.
It will work on 1.1.3 ootb phones too.
Other options are unchanged.
Do not forget to donate!
The future of ZiPhone will depend on you also !
If you can't code, or contribute in other ways,
just donate.
I think we won't need another version till the next firmware release :)
Namaste!
Peace out.
(To quote my favourite blogger)
Important:
For people who get stuck on apple logo.
Try to use: ZiPhone -v -b
That solved the problem for many people.

App based iPhone unlock
MORE GREAT news for the iPhone community
Redownload file. NEW OPTION to ierase 3.9 bl basebands!
(This time i removed osx version because it still doesn't work)
Well.. I think that's enough testing... here you have ZiPhone !
It's by far the most simple program to setup your iPhone.
Just run it and you will see it.
Windows + OSX versions !
The source IS available at
(SVN) http://iphone-elite.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/ZiPhone/
and
http://www.iphone-elite.org/
The latest version of ZiPhone is always available at:
http://iphone-elite.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/ZiPhone.zip
Details on how it works and WHY it works, will be released on the above site or wiki.
No 'dev-team' was directly involved with this work.
This program is based on the work of everyone who
believed in free software. (Thanks for the toolchain!)
Thanks to geohot for his latest work.
Thanks to Tissy for moral support.
Thanks to iphone-elite.org for support.
Thanks to Viper and Tifel and ortner for being so nice always.
Thanks to iRev for the picture above and to Mel Brooks for
producing and directing such a funny movie.
And thanks to iphoneelite.com for giving me so many laughs too :)
Namaste,
Zibri.
P.S.
As a side-effect, using this tool will revive many 'dead' basebands.
Just use the unlock option.
FOR PEOPLE with NO IMEI, NO WIFI, NO BASEBAND (4.6BL):
boot the phone in recovery mode.
then run: ziphone -u

GEOHOT manages to unlock 1.1.3 OOB
Source; Engadget
Mr. GEOrge HOTz did it again. He just loosed a world of hurt on AT&T with a software unlock for 1.1.3 iPhones. That's right, the software is said to work on any fresh from the Apple store, shrink-wrapped iPhone sporting the latest 1.1.3 firmware and 4.6 bootloader. Something the AnySim unlock can't do. GeoHot's instructions (and dev/elite team smack talk) posted after the break. We haven't tested yet so as always, take care.
[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]
geohot's 1.1.2 software unlockyes, this is what you have all been waiting fornow fixed to support 1.1.31. Download these:gunlock and the secpack from http://iphonejtag.blogspot.com/ or the blog :)the 4.02.13 fls from http://george.zjlotto.com/index.php/baseband/2. Downgrade your phone to 1.0.2. See all the great tutorials online to do this. Your baseband won't be downgraded, this is normal. This will probably work on other versions too, but 1.0.2 doesn't lose wifi on bb access.3. Kill CommCenter and run "gunlock secpack ICE04.02.13_G.fls"4. Reload CommCenter. For some reason my phone was in brick mode. Use the elite team bricktool to get out.5. Enjoy your 1.1.2 OTB unlocked iPhoneNow who'd have thought it'd be this easy :)This release is no thanks to elite/devI wish they would share like the old days.I don't believe everyone in the team is like this, but come on guys.If you want to contribute to me, the person who discovered these exploits and wrote this toolpaypal geohot@gmail.com

NEW 16 gig iPhone

Out of the rumor mill comes the 16GB iPhone, now official. Ever since the 16GB iPod touch was announced in September, we all knew it was just a matter of time until Apple could bung the same NAND capacity into their chubbier iPhone. The surprise is a new 32GB iPod touch for the same $499. No other changes and certainly not 3G. Both are available immediately.
Update: We just spoke with Apple, who told us that by available immediately, that means both US and international customers. They should start making their way to stores over the next couple of days, too, so call ahead to check stock if you're buying offline. Also, Cupertino had no comment on whether there were any other under-the-hood hardware changes in these new models.

anySIM 1.3 (prematurely?) released, dev-team heeds caution
This is Version 1.3 Of anySIM.
This version unlocks baseband 4.03_13_g
It’s only for bootblock 3.9 don’t use on 4.6
To use it, upgrade the baseband then
put the iPhone in airplane mode and run it !
It works also in JB 113 OS…
Before you get too excited, please note the Dev-Teams warning: “1.1.3 anySIM IS NOT FINISHED! DO NOT USE IT!”
Their emphasis, not mine. I would take notice and wait for the water to clear before jumping in.

My PRECIOUS iPhone wouldnt sync with outlook
Apparently there where (are?) issues with DEV teams release of 1.1.3 jailbreak.
I read several places that it ought to be fixed.
In installer add the source; http://modiphone.net/repo and run the 1.1.3 sync fix.
I had to reset my "Sync history" in Itunes 7.6 (windows). At first i thought it "re-wrote" all from computer to iphone, which would have been ok. But it did a complete re-sync
Happy again? YES

NOW Running 1.1.3
Installation took about 30minutes, The install is 100% automated.
My phone is up and running, except for the Locate me functionally, which requires the new bootloader.
EDIT: locate me is working through navizon gps, however its about 1500m off....
Only problem. I had to re-install all third party apps again... And I'm still struggling with summerboard. Can't uninstall it....
Recommended, yes.

Jailbreak 113 from DEV team
Well it's officially that DEV team has made a jailbreak for 1.1.3. I haven't tried it yet, though rumor has it that its kind of buggy.
And Locate me wont work until the new baseband is cracked...
iPhone 1.1.3 “Soft” Jailbreak
Brought to you by planetbeing, NerveGas, ghost_000, dinopio, bgm, MuscleNerd,
core, and the iPhone-Elite and iPhone/iTouch Dev teams.OVERVIEW
This “soft” update upgrades a 1.1.2 iPhone/iTouch to 1.1.3. You will require
a v1.1.2 Jailbroke device with the BSD Subsystem v1.5 or greater installed. This installer does NOT upgrade your baseband. It only creates a log directory
for it, which is needed in 1.1.3. Don’t freak out when you see it doing so.IMPORTANT NOTICE
Because this is a soft update, the kernel cache is not upgraded. You will
need to ensure you are on v1.1.2, otherwise this will cause certain DRM
functionality, such as Nikita (Apple’s new software installer for the SDK)
to malfunction.UPGRADE MUST BE PERFORMED FROM 112 TO WORK PROPERLY
IMPORTANT WARNINGS:
1. Set Auto-Lock to “Never” in your settings to prevent the Phone from
locking and shutting down your connection.2. This installer downloads a significant amount of data from Apple’s
website. Be sure you have WiFi turned on so that you don’t use your
mobile connection - or you’ll be sitting there a while!3. Be sure to perform this upgrade with the charge cable connected
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Copy this entire distribution to / on your iPhone/iTouch
So you will have /update-prebinding-path.txt and so on# scp -r ./* root@iphone:/
2. Run the install.sh script:
# sh install.sh
3. The device will perform an upgrade and reboot into 1.1.3
If something DOES go wrong, restore back to 1.1.2 / Jailbroken and try again.
If you get something like illegal hardware instruction, just try rebooting
and it should be updated to 1.1.3.If you don’t get service, try a forced-power-down then power back on.
That’s it!

Syncing iPhone with Outlook 2007
I've read ALOT of people having trouble syncing contacts with outlook (in my case 2007)
However I found a solution for my problem..
Background: All my contacts are synced from a Nokia E65 to Outlook 2007
solution: I spend literally hours trying to sync it. Finally I got so frustrated I moved all contacts OUT from outlook... Then I tried syncing it, and it worked... Well with zero contacts left it wasn't really worth anything. But it got me on the right track.
In the folder where I stored all the Vcards/contacts, after moving them out of Outlook, I started looking for a problem. And found one. Most od my contacts contains name and one number, pretty consistently, so I figured they should weigh(in kb) the same.
When I browsed through them, I saw most where around 8kb, but some where 16-64kb. When I synced with one of the 8 kb contacts it works. But when I sync one of the more heavy ones, it crashes.
In order to get my sync working I deleted the faulty contact, and then re-intering a new one...
Reason: I believe the Nokia PC-suite for some reason add some details to the contact that conflicts with Itunes / iPhone.
I hope this will help others as well.
AND Merry christmas / holiday.

The battle against (or with) Apple Iphone
Whether the Iphone really is the ulltimate gadget I don't know yet. But I can't wait to find out.
So as mentioned before I ordered an Iphone, and basicly it's an expensive Ipod touch.
The issue is that Apple tries REALLY hard to lock the phones, so only one provider can sell them. On the other side of the arena is "the dev team" a group of gifted "hackers" trying to reverse apples work.
Rumor has it, that Apple's made a sweet deal and making a profit at around 20% of the subsription deals. I have no source for this.
At the moment I iPhones are shipping with a firmware called 1.1.2 OOB (Out of the box) and a boot loader version 4.6. I have done a lot of browsing, and at the moment, there is NO software unlock for this software. This is also why I'm refering to the Iphone as an expensive ipod touch..
However It can be unlocked by a "Turbo Sim" Check this thread for more information: Hackint0sh
As far as I know the "dev team" is working hard to find a way to soft unlock the Iphone, but no one really knows har far out in the future this will happen.
On a more interesting development is reversing the Apple unlock procedure. In both France and germany it is possible (against a fee) to unlock the iPhone be sending the IMEI to Apple, It will then be unlocked through iTunes. Alot of hackers are hoping to reverse this and use it for "the greater good..."
Hopefully mine will be arriving within a week...

The Iphone
OK I'm admittedly a geek, well hmm.. HUGE geek that is.
So I just ordered an Iphone from the states. With some luck and goodwill from the customs it ought to arrive here about thursday next week whoooohooo... I can hardly wait.
However I have more or less orderet a REALLY exspensive Ipod touch. Since the software (1.1.2 ootb) is locking the phone. So a lot of my focus will be on finding a way to unlock it.
This is some thing I will post about for sure.
