What moved me to primarily considering android is the "open-ish" approach and having played around with a early version of Lenovo's win7 and adroid 10.1" tablets.

ps3 allgedly almost hack3d.
I will be following the progress, which will hopefully lead to me upgrading my Internet bandwith.
quote form his blog:
Hello hypervisor, I'm geohot
3 years, 2 months, 11 days...thats a pretty secure system
Took 5 weeks, 3 in Boston, 2 here, very simple hardware cleverly applied, and some not so simple software.
Shout out to George Kharrat from iPhoneMod Brasil for giving me this PS3 a year and a half ago to hack. Sorry it took me so long :)
As far as the exploit goes, I'm not revealing it yet. The theory isn't really patchable, but they can make implementations much harder. Also, for obvious reasons I can't post dumps. I'm hoping to find the decryption keys and post them, but they may be embedded in hardware. Hopefully keys are setup like the iPhone's KBAG.
A lot more to come...follow @geohot on twitter

MacBookPro line refresh coming january 27th
Since the adaptation of intel cpu's aplle has been available to a new group of consumers. Windows users, and with that people who cares about games.
Aplle has a great product line in my opinion, and the certainly has a very loyal customer base. and alot of customers who will buy macs, no matter what. amongst them people who buy them for; quality, design, OS, grapical design, and the "see me see me" effect.
I'm in the latter group....
I will be buying my new MBP as a multi purpose computer.
web, blogging, music, movies, and hopefully ,lite, gaming.
So here are my hopes. Make a mbp with a broader appeal and specs closer to the PC competitors.
At the moment I'm looking at the 13 inch for portability and the 17" for resolution and better gpu. which means I'll probably settle for the 15", let's be honest price is also a factor.
the 13-15" machines lack behind their PC siblings in screen resolution and GPU's. If Apple could just pay a little more attention here...

How to: auto add media to your itunes library...
I add a lot of music to my library, say from CD's I rip through mediaplayer...
Any ways, I add all music to my "music library". Normally you can just drag the folder to itunes. But as the volume increases so does the time it takes to scan the library.
I tried creating new folders as I ripped the music. But this becomes insanely un-organized.
So this week i discovered the "Automatically Add to iTunes". supposedly it's been there since version 9. But it's new to me. What it does is quite simple. When iTunes is open. It adds the media in the library. And moves the files / folders. Except for any media iTunes cant add.
The location of this folder can be customized as you choose [ edit - settings - advanced - location of media library] I'm not on an English itunes, so it might be something slightly different...
Please remember that itunes stores the new folders in the samme folder as "auto add to.."

run for cover(s)...
Recently I found my self really annoyed at all the lacking covers in itunes. So I really hope this post could help out others.
I downloaded the mediaplayer mediamonkey www.mediamonkey.com Which is an okey'ish and feature rich itunes alternative.
Then I added a really cool script called batch art finder. which googles the covers and lets you add them to each album.
you can get it here http://trixmoto.net/mm/scripts.php?id=1
In short. For syncing ipod devices mediamonkey is okay. It has alot more features than itunes, I however find the GUI a bit lacking. So I primarily use it for syncing and finding covers.

3g iphone ready for july...
news from engadget.
by Ryan Block, posted Apr 25th 2008 at 3:26PM
So we've got it on authority that the second-gen iPhone is already well into testing, and numerous units are floating around in super secret pockets. A trusted source got a chance to check one out, here's what we've heard.
The first thing people will notice: the 2nd gen iPhone will be about the same size and shape as the first gen.
It will, of course, have 3G. And proper GPS!
The most noticeable physical difference is back of the phone is no longer metal -- the whole thing is glossy black, from top to bottom. The volume buttons are now chrome.
Because it's got a little less metal to deal with, it doesn't have quite as many angular edges. The battery is (still) not removable.
The phone itself will be slightly thicker than the first gen device.
The headphone jack will no longer be recessed, and will finally be flush with the body.
The device itself uses roughly the same size and resolution screen as the first generation product.
No solid word on battery life or storage capacity.
It could ship (or be introduced) as early as July -- but it's worth noting that none of this is necessarily finalized, and any of it could change between now and its introduction. You really never know with Apple!
P.S. -Image via iPod Observer, MacRumors points out it's probably just a case (which we'd likely agree with); we're not by any means claiming the image above is the new iPhone, just an example of what it could look like given the info we received.

Quake 3 / Doom on iPhone / touch
Source: Engadget.
Future generations will most likely divide the timeline of history at this point: when Quake 3 achieved motion-sensing, wireless network play on two iPod touches. Just think, less than a year ago we were salivating (or at least mildly enthused) at the prospect of rocking Doom on this thing, and now Quake 3 Arena is yours for the taking -- or at least will be once we get any sort of hard info on this app.

PWNED is out..... for mac
PWNED, the "ultimate" tool from DEV team has been released for Mac. And will be released shortly, hopefully, for windoze.
I haven't tried it. and don't really know whether its better than Ziphone. One thing should be that PWN doesn't need to downgrade the bootloader, you can even upgrade bootloader. This might open some very interesting possibilities, like running Linux on iPhone... We'll just have to wait and see.

iPhone firmware 2.0 leaked.
Well It's been out there for some time now, although i wont be released for several months, june/july perhaps.
So what's the hype, really. Normally I would think it was nice to test some beta software. But I really can't see the big difference from 1.1.2-4

RIP Arthur C Clarke
Arthur C Clarke dies at 90 years
Today is a very sad day in our little world. It's been reported that Arthur C. Clarke, among the most influential visionaries in technology and a personal hero of Engadget readers and editors both, has died in hospital care at the age of 90. Along with his many written works (such as the infamous and immeasurably influential 2001: A Space Odyssey), Clarke was possibly best known for conceptualizing the geostationary communications satellite -- clearly one of the most important technological innovations in history.

Testing Ziphone
For some reason my iphone "died" on me last week. I tried to install an app from installer. Restarted the iPhone .... NOTHING ....
I downloaded Ziphone, and in just about ten minutes I was up and running again... BLOODY BRILLIANT little tool.
FYI My iPhone is 1.1.2 OOB, unlocked originally with Turbosim. And at the moment running 1.1.3 unlocked with ziphone. I'm thinkin 1.1.4 for tomorrow.
I'll try to read up on it. I've seen some places that it's a minor upgrade, some would say bugfix...
DOWNLOAD Ziphone 2.5
If Can't figure out how to use it, you better return your iPhone... ;-)
Ziphone 2,5 and iPhone 1.1.4
There is a new version of ziphone aswell.

Samsung Google phone
According to man-about-town, Robert X. Cringely, Samsung is readying not one, but two separate Android-based phones, one of which is due in September, with another model following around Christmas. If you believe what you read (and what his tipster says), these phones will not be labeled Samsung, rather they will be released as Google-branded gPhones. The model released in the Fall will be a "higher-end" model which apparently looks "somewhat like a Blackberry Pearl" but with a screen that flips and "a keyboard for texting" (though to be honest, that description makes little sense, as the Pearl has a keyboard). The second device will be a cheaper model (under $100), and will likely be released after the holidays. Of course, right now this is just speculation -- given the large gap of time between now and September, these plans could be completely rearranged or nixed altogether... even if they are accurate.

Ziphone now version 2.0
In the command line version, you will find a new
option "-b" be very careful with that!
I take no responsability if you brick your phone!
ZiPhone -b will downgrade bootloader from 4.6 to 3.9,
flash 4.03.13_G baseband version and
unlock it (in one shot!).
It worked for me on 2 ootb 1.1.2 phones.
It will work on 1.1.3 ootb phones too.
Other options are unchanged.
Do not forget to donate!
The future of ZiPhone will depend on you also !
If you can't code, or contribute in other ways,
just donate.
I think we won't need another version till the next firmware release :)
Namaste!
Peace out.
(To quote my favourite blogger)
Important:
For people who get stuck on apple logo.
Try to use: ZiPhone -v -b
That solved the problem for many people.

App based iPhone unlock
MORE GREAT news for the iPhone community
Redownload file. NEW OPTION to ierase 3.9 bl basebands!
(This time i removed osx version because it still doesn't work)
Well.. I think that's enough testing... here you have ZiPhone !
It's by far the most simple program to setup your iPhone.
Just run it and you will see it.
Windows + OSX versions !
The source IS available at
(SVN) http://iphone-elite.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/ZiPhone/
and
http://www.iphone-elite.org/
The latest version of ZiPhone is always available at:
http://iphone-elite.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/ZiPhone.zip
Details on how it works and WHY it works, will be released on the above site or wiki.
No 'dev-team' was directly involved with this work.
This program is based on the work of everyone who
believed in free software. (Thanks for the toolchain!)
Thanks to geohot for his latest work.
Thanks to Tissy for moral support.
Thanks to iphone-elite.org for support.
Thanks to Viper and Tifel and ortner for being so nice always.
Thanks to iRev for the picture above and to Mel Brooks for
producing and directing such a funny movie.
And thanks to iphoneelite.com for giving me so many laughs too :)
Namaste,
Zibri.
P.S.
As a side-effect, using this tool will revive many 'dead' basebands.
Just use the unlock option.
FOR PEOPLE with NO IMEI, NO WIFI, NO BASEBAND (4.6BL):
boot the phone in recovery mode.
then run: ziphone -u

GEOHOT manages to unlock 1.1.3 OOB
Source; Engadget
Mr. GEOrge HOTz did it again. He just loosed a world of hurt on AT&T with a software unlock for 1.1.3 iPhones. That's right, the software is said to work on any fresh from the Apple store, shrink-wrapped iPhone sporting the latest 1.1.3 firmware and 4.6 bootloader. Something the AnySim unlock can't do. GeoHot's instructions (and dev/elite team smack talk) posted after the break. We haven't tested yet so as always, take care.
[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]
geohot's 1.1.2 software unlockyes, this is what you have all been waiting fornow fixed to support 1.1.31. Download these:gunlock and the secpack from http://iphonejtag.blogspot.com/ or the blog :)the 4.02.13 fls from http://george.zjlotto.com/index.php/baseband/2. Downgrade your phone to 1.0.2. See all the great tutorials online to do this. Your baseband won't be downgraded, this is normal. This will probably work on other versions too, but 1.0.2 doesn't lose wifi on bb access.3. Kill CommCenter and run "gunlock secpack ICE04.02.13_G.fls"4. Reload CommCenter. For some reason my phone was in brick mode. Use the elite team bricktool to get out.5. Enjoy your 1.1.2 OTB unlocked iPhoneNow who'd have thought it'd be this easy :)This release is no thanks to elite/devI wish they would share like the old days.I don't believe everyone in the team is like this, but come on guys.If you want to contribute to me, the person who discovered these exploits and wrote this toolpaypal geohot@gmail.com

NEW 16 gig iPhone
Out of the rumor mill comes the 16GB iPhone, now official. Ever since the 16GB iPod touch was announced in September, we all knew it was just a matter of time until Apple could bung the same NAND capacity into their chubbier iPhone. The surprise is a new 32GB iPod touch for the same $499. No other changes and certainly not 3G. Both are available immediately.
Update: We just spoke with Apple, who told us that by available immediately, that means both US and international customers. They should start making their way to stores over the next couple of days, too, so call ahead to check stock if you're buying offline. Also, Cupertino had no comment on whether there were any other under-the-hood hardware changes in these new models.

anySIM 1.3 (prematurely?) released, dev-team heeds caution
This is Version 1.3 Of anySIM.
This version unlocks baseband 4.03_13_g
It’s only for bootblock 3.9 don’t use on 4.6
To use it, upgrade the baseband then
put the iPhone in airplane mode and run it !
It works also in JB 113 OS…
Before you get too excited, please note the Dev-Teams warning: “1.1.3 anySIM IS NOT FINISHED! DO NOT USE IT!”
Their emphasis, not mine. I would take notice and wait for the water to clear before jumping in.

My PRECIOUS iPhone wouldnt sync with outlook
Apparently there where (are?) issues with DEV teams release of 1.1.3 jailbreak.
I read several places that it ought to be fixed.
In installer add the source; http://modiphone.net/repo and run the 1.1.3 sync fix.
I had to reset my "Sync history" in Itunes 7.6 (windows). At first i thought it "re-wrote" all from computer to iphone, which would have been ok. But it did a complete re-sync
Happy again? YES

NOW Running 1.1.3
Installation took about 30minutes, The install is 100% automated.
My phone is up and running, except for the Locate me functionally, which requires the new bootloader.
EDIT: locate me is working through navizon gps, however its about 1500m off....
Only problem. I had to re-install all third party apps again... And I'm still struggling with summerboard. Can't uninstall it....

Jailbreak 113 from DEV team
Well it's officially that DEV team has made a jailbreak for 1.1.3. I haven't tried it yet, though rumor has it that its kind of buggy.
And Locate me wont work until the new baseband is cracked...
iPhone 1.1.3 “Soft” Jailbreak
Brought to you by planetbeing, NerveGas, ghost_000, dinopio, bgm, MuscleNerd,
core, and the iPhone-Elite and iPhone/iTouch Dev teams.OVERVIEW
This “soft” update upgrades a 1.1.2 iPhone/iTouch to 1.1.3. You will require
a v1.1.2 Jailbroke device with the BSD Subsystem v1.5 or greater installed. This installer does NOT upgrade your baseband. It only creates a log directory
for it, which is needed in 1.1.3. Don’t freak out when you see it doing so.IMPORTANT NOTICE
Because this is a soft update, the kernel cache is not upgraded. You will
need to ensure you are on v1.1.2, otherwise this will cause certain DRM
functionality, such as Nikita (Apple’s new software installer for the SDK)
to malfunction.UPGRADE MUST BE PERFORMED FROM 112 TO WORK PROPERLY
IMPORTANT WARNINGS:
1. Set Auto-Lock to “Never” in your settings to prevent the Phone from
locking and shutting down your connection.2. This installer downloads a significant amount of data from Apple’s
website. Be sure you have WiFi turned on so that you don’t use your
mobile connection - or you’ll be sitting there a while!3. Be sure to perform this upgrade with the charge cable connected
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Copy this entire distribution to / on your iPhone/iTouch
So you will have /update-prebinding-path.txt and so on# scp -r ./* root@iphone:/
2. Run the install.sh script:
# sh install.sh
3. The device will perform an upgrade and reboot into 1.1.3
If something DOES go wrong, restore back to 1.1.2 / Jailbroken and try again.
If you get something like illegal hardware instruction, just try rebooting
and it should be updated to 1.1.3.If you don’t get service, try a forced-power-down then power back on.
That’s it!
